RIO CASINO, LAS VEGAS - The November Nine will be decided on Day 8 (Tuesday) after 57 players were reduced to 22 by the end of Day 7. Ukraine's Anton Makievskyi leads the field with 21.045 million after winning the biggest pot of the tournament so far near the end of the day.
Makievskyi earned the chip lead thanks to a massive pot of just over 20million chips against Christopher Moore. The young Ukrainian flopped Jacks-full of Kings to Moore's trip Jacks. A raising war ensued on the flop as both players got their money in and Moore was drawing to three outs as his Ace-Jack was well dominated by Makievskyi's King-Jack on the K,J,J board. Despite losing such a monster pot and having his stack reduced from nearly 12million to under 2million, Moore managed to regroup and will return to Day 8 with just over 3million in chips; well below the 9.36million average stack but still alive.
Ireland's Eoghan O'Dea is second in chips with 19.05 million after another massive pot near the end of the day saw his stack nearly double as he knocked out Andrew Hinrichsen in 23rd place. O'Dea held pocket Kings to Hinrichsen's Ace-King and they both got their chips preflop. Kings turned into a flush for the Irishman to put him into a clear second place.
Other big stacks include Khoa Nguyen - 16.435m, Andrey Pateychuk - 16.245m and Ben Lamb - 14.69m. Lamb's remarkable series continues as he bids to make another final table to make his player of the year lead almost unassailable going into the World Series of Poker Europe in October.
Samuel Holden is the last Brit standing with 4.74million in chips (17th out of 22). Two-time bracelet winner JP Kelly was the UK's big hope going into Day 7 and he was among the chip leaders during the day but an ill timed bluff and a lost flip meant he exited in 26th place for $302,005.
Erika Moutinho and David "Doc" Sands are probably pokers most famous couple right now after their deep runs in the Main Event and their kiss at the feature table. Neither of them could hold on for too long as they were both nursing short stacks and finished 29th and 30th respectively for $242,636.
Day 8 begins at 1200 PT (2000 BST) Tuesday
