French champions Bordeaux host German giants Bayern Munich tonight in the group stages of the Champions League. Bordeaux are in decent form going into tonight`s match with seven wins in their last eleven games in all competitions. In Europe they earned a creditable draw at Juventus before beating Maccabi Haifa. However, they have lost their last two league games and will hope to get back to winning ways. The visitors are also yet to hit top gear this season, with one win in their last four games.
The hosts are very slight favourites for the tie but there is little to choose between them, with Bordeaux at 17/10 (bet $100 to win $170 profit) and Bayern at 7/4. The draw is priced at 5/2 and looks far from unlikely with two teams this evenly matched.
A 1-1 draw is seen by the bookmakers as the most likely result at 6/1, with 1-0 to Bordeaux at 7/1 and 1-0 to Bayern at 7/2. A goal-less draw is priced at 9/1 and this could be an interesting bet given that two of the visitors last three competitive games have ended this way. The two sides have never met before.
Mario Gomez, Bayern`s twenty-four year-old German striker, is favourite to score the first goal of the game 13/2. Fernando Cavenaghi of Bordeaux, who scored twelve goals in thirteen appearances for Argentina`s under-21s is next at 7/1, along with Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni at the same price. Marouane Chamakh, Bordeaux`s Morrocan striker who was pursued by Arsenal over the summer, is 8/1.
The half-time/full-time market reflects well just how similar the two teams are seen to be, with draw/draw, Bordeaux/Bordeaux and Bayern/Bayern all priced at 4/1. Draw/Bordeaux is 5/1 and draw/Bayern Munich is 11/2.
The bookies see Bayern Munich as the more likely team to win the competition this year and they are not too far out at 25/1. Bordeaux are not given too much chance and are priced at a distant 100/1.
