World Cup 2014 Qualifying: Paraguay v Uruguay Odds and Betting Preview

Asunicion, Paraguay – The qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup continue on Tuesday when Paraguay face Uruguay in the Estadio Defensores del Chaco.

The match looks set to be a tightly contested affair and the home side, Paraguay, edge favouritism at 6/4 (bet £4 to make £6 profit) with Ladbrokes and Stan James in what is a repeat of the Copa America Final, played out earlier this year. The winners of that competition by a 3-0 score line, Uruguay are quoted at 15/8 with bet365 to repeat their success over their South American rivals on Tuesday while the draw is a standout 9/4 chance with Coral.

The Copa America winners, Uruguay, won their opening fixture in the qualifying process for Brazil 2014 recording a comfortable 4-2 victory over Bolivia. Diego Forlan was in supreme form assisting in the build up to three of the four goals and his link up play with Luis Suarez could be the deciding factor again on Tuesday.

Paraguay’s new coach, Francisco Arce, had his first taste of competitive football last Saturday when he saw his men fall to two second-half strikes from the Peru striker Guerrero. He will hope Paraguay can perform much better in front of their home support and banish the memories of their last painful defeat by Uruguay. Los Guaranies did not manage to find the back of the net away from home and will want to get their campaign off to a strong start on their own turf.

In the Correct Score betting, sportingbet have priced up a 1-0 victory for either side at 6/1 while a one-all draw is quoted at an industry best price of 11/2 at William Hill. 2-1 to Uruguay is 10/1 with bet365, whilst a repeat of the Copa America final score line is a massive 40/1 with Paddy Power. A nil-nil bore draw is as short as 8/1 with Ladbrokes but with goal scoring options littered throughout the two sides it would be a disappointment for the match to end without a goal.

A stalemate at the end of both periods is the 7/2 favourite with Victor Chandler in the Half-time/Full-time betting while Paraguay/Paraguay is a best price of 4/1 at Ladbrokes. Draw/Paraguay is 5/1 with William Hill and Uruguay/Uruguay is a generous 9/2 with Boylesports for a side that has recorded four straight victories.

Under 2.5 goals is 4/7 with Stan James while over the same 2.5 margin is 6/4 with William Hill and Uruguay have scored three or more goals in all three of their last matches.

Uruguay have been installed at a best price of 33/1 with most firms to follow up their superb Copa America success with victory in the World Cup in three years time whilst Paraguay are a 66/1 chance with bookmakers that include Betfred, bet365 and Ladbrokes.

The match kicks off at 23:45 BST on Tuesday 11th October and UK bettors have the option of watching the match live via bet365’s online streaming service.
