Carling Cup – Cardiff City v Leicester City: Odds and Betting Preview

Cardiff, UK – This Third Round Carling Cup clash will mark the first of two games for these sides in a week, as they are scheduled to meet in the league at the weekend. This may influence the teams that the two managers field as both have aspirations of promotion to the Premiership and so will not want to compromise their chances of collecting three points on Sunday.

Cardiff are the 6/4 favourites with Coral to win this match in 90 minutes and add their name to the draw for the next round. Leicester can be backed at odds of 15/8 with bet365 and Ladbrokes whilst the draw is a 12/5 shot with the same two firms.

The Foxes have had an indifferent start to the new Championship campaign despite their lavish spending over the summer, collecting only eleven points from their first seven league matches.  This has heaped a huge amount of pressure on the boss Sven Goran Eriksson and he will need to use all of his management experience to juggle his squad as he enters a ten day period where Leicester will take to the field for four games. He will want to set off on the right track by picking up an away victory here to instil confidence in his players, before a return visit to Wales on Sunday.

Cardiff produced a strong performance away at Blackpool picking up a 1-1 draw at the weekend but having narrowly missed out on promotion last year it is no secret that the league is the sole focus this time around. Manager, Malky Mackay rested his entire first-team in the last round and if he were to do so again he may get his wish of an early exit from the tournament. He has built up a large squad at Cardiff and should use field a mix of youth and fringe players tonight which will set-up an intriguing contest.

In the Over/Under market over 2.5 goals is 4/5 with betinternet whilst Ladbrokes make it an even money chance that the tie will be settled by under 2.5 goals. Stan James offer a generous 3/1 on the match to be settled by a single goal for either side.

Cardiff/Cardiff is 3/1 with Blue Square in the popular Half-time/Full-time betting market while Boylesports offer 9/2 on Leicester to be leading at both the half-time and full-time whistles. Draw/Leicester is a standout 13/1 with Coral and Victor Chandler quote 9/2 on a stalemate at the end of both halves in the game.

A one-all draw has been priced up at 6/1 with Skybet while bet365 make a Cardiff 1-0 victory an 8/1 shot. A victory for Leicester by the same 1-0 score line is a big-priced 10/1 chance with Stan James for any bettors that predict the visitors will snatch the deciding goal. A 2-1 victory for the Welsh side is on offer at 9/1 with Blue Square in the Correct Score betting.

The Scottish international, Kenny Miller, heads the First Goalscorer market for the home side and can be backed at 11/2 with Coral while his team mate Robert Earnshaw is a standout 6/1 with Skybet. The most prominent player for the Foxes is Jermaine Beckford who is a general 6/1 shot to break the deadlock for the visitors. An outsider in this market for Leicester is the imposing defender Sol Bamba, a favourite with the fans since his move to the King Power Stadium in January, and is priced at 28/1 with bet365 to break the deadlock on Wednesday.

This match kicks off at 19.45 on Wednesday evening.
