BORDEAUX, FRANCE - Ligue 1 champions Lille are favourites to beat Bordeaux tonight, despite major concerns surrounding their defence.
Lille have conceded an average of two goals per game in their previous five games, but that has not dissuaded Ladbrokes from chalking them up as the 7/4 favourites to win the opening match of the seventh matchday. The stalemate is on offer at 9/4 with Victor Chandler, whilst a home win for Bordeaux can be backed at 15/8 with the same firm.
After conceding two 2-2 draws at home to Sochaux and CSKA Moscow, Les Lillois will be keen to shore up the floodgates, but their task has not been made any easier by a slight injury to Chedjou and the suspension of Debuchy, who picked up a red card against Sochaux. Lille's central defence is likely to comprise Basa and Rozehnal, so with that in mind over 2.5 goals looks an interesting bet at 11/10 with Coral.
The favourite scoreline in the correct score betting is a 1-1 draw, which can be backed at 11/2 with William Hill. A 1-0 win to Lille is 7/1 with bet365, although punters will be wondering whether Lille can finally keep a clean sheet. Those bettors preferring to side with more goals can back a 2-2 draw at 16/1 with William Hill, or a 2-1 win for Les Girondins at 9/1 with totesport.
UK-based punters may be keen to get a piece of Joe Cole (pictured) in the first goalscorer market at 10/1 with bet365, but he is likely to find himself on the wing even if he does start the game. Eden Hazard has been in fine form and looks an each-way price at 7/1 with Boylesports, whilst the former French international Benoit Pedretti also makes appeal at 14/1 for the away side. According to the bookmakers, Bordeaux’s biggest threat will be Anthony Modeste at 6/1, but his side are still looking for their first win of the season.
In the half-time/full-time betting markets Lille/Lille and Draw/Lille are both 4/1 shots with Ladbrokes, but Draw/Draw could be more tempting at 4/1 with Victor Chandler given that Bordeaux have already drawn three matches this season.
The excellent Moussa Sow is 66/1 with Sky Bet to score a hat-trick and punters also have the opportunity to back both teams to score at 10/11 with William Hill.
The match begins at 9pm local time, which is 8pm for UK punters, who can watch the match live on bet365’s excellent streaming service.
