Bundesliga betting preview - Bayern Munich odds on to win twenty-third title

The new season of the Bundesliga gets underway on Saturday, and twenty-two time champions Bayern Munich will attemp to wrest the title back from Borussia Dortmund, who won it last year.

Bayern finished ten points adrift of Dortmund in third last season, which was hugely disappointing considering the fantastic year they had in 2010, when they won the Bundesliga and German Cup as well as reaching the final of the Champions League. However, they have strengthened significantly over the summer, bringing in goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from Schalke, Jerome Boateng from Manchester City and Rafinha from Genoa among others. They will hope to be luckier with injuries this season, after both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery missed large chunk of last season. They are best priced at 8/13 with Bodog to win the league this season, under returning manager Jupp Heynckes.

Next in the betting are Dortmund, who are priced at 5/1 with Ladbrokes. They won the league with two games to spare last season, eventually beating Bayer Leverkusen by seven points. They have been more moderate in their spending than Bayern, with Ilkay Gundogan from Nurnburg and Ivan Perisic from Brugge being their main signings. They will hope that Nuri Sahin and Lucas Barrios can continue their form from last season, although Barrios will miss the start of the season after he damaged a thigh muscle in the Copa America final.

Bayer Leverkusen are next in the betting, priced at 14/1 with Sportingbet. Despite finished second last season, Leverkusen never really troubled Dortmund, and they are still looking for their first league title, having been runners up five times. Their main signing has been Andre Schurlle from Mainz for €8million, and new manager Robin Dutt will be looking to end their hoodoo.

Schalke are best priced at 17/1 with Paddy Power to win a first Bundesliga since 2007. The club endured a terrible season in the league last year, finishing fourteenth. However, they were successful outside the league, winning the German Cup and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they lost to Manchester United. They will have to improve under manager Ralf Rangnick to win a first title since 1958.

Wolfsburg, the 2009 champions are 25/1 to win this season, and Stuttgart, who were twelfth last season are generally available at 33/1 to win the league.
