Serie A: Catania v Inter Milan Odds and Betting Preview

CATANIA, ITALY – Calcio Catania host Italian giants Inter Milan in their eagerly anticipated Serie A clash on Saturday. Inter Milan have had a terrible start to their league season, gaining only four points from their first five fixtures. They are currently floundering in seventeenth position in the league, much to the chagrin of their fans, and will be hoping to turn their fortunes around as quickly as possible, starting with a win over Catania in their upcoming game.

Despite their poor form Inter start the match as favourites to win at 6/5 (bet £5 to make £6 profit) with Victor Chandler. Catania, on the the other hand, can be backed to win at best odds of 3/1 with Ladbrokes, whilst the draw is on offer at 23/10 with Paddy Power.

Inter Milan managed to gain only one point from their first three league games – a shocking run of form which led to the sacking of manager Gian Piero Gasperini. In his place the Inter board appointed Claudio Ranieri, but this change of management has not yet proven to be a pragmatic decision. Ranieri won his first game in charge, calming some of the frayed nerves at the San Siro, but then lost 3-0 away against Napoli early this month. The Italian will hope that he can secure a win against Catania, showing the board that they were right to put faith in his ability.

Catania are currently one point ahead Inter, and have not won in the league in their last three outings. Manager Vicenzo Montella will draw some encouragement, however, from how his side have conducted themselves in their last two games. Catania first held Juventus to a 1-1 draw at home, and then equalised in stoppage time to win one point away at Novara. Montella's side face a tough challenge on Sunday if Inter finally find their form, but will fight tooth and nail to secure a result against their opponents.

In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is 11/10 with Coral, whilst under 2.5 goals is available at 4/5 with Victor Chandler. The bookmakers are clearly not expecting a dull goalless stalemate, and under 0.5 goals can be backed at a much longer 9/1with William Hill.

Inter star Diego Milito is always sharp in front of goal, and the Argentine is currently 9/2 favourite with Boylesports to open the scoring on Saturday. Milito's team mate Diego Forlan is also deemed to be dangerous by the bookmakers, and can be backed to score first at a slightly longer 5/1 with Paddy Power, whilst Giampaolo Pazzini is on offer at 11/2 with Bet365. Catania's most potent attacking player is Maxi Lopez, and punters can bet on him breaking the deadlock at best odds of 7/1 with Skybet.

Inter are quoted at best odds of 5/2 by Blue Square to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Inter is available at 9/2 with Coral. Draw/Catania is currently available at 8/1 with Ladbrokes, whilst punters who think that Catania will win the match after trailing at half time can back Inter/Catania at 40/1 with Paddy Power.

Kick off is at 17.00 BST
