PERTH, UK - Rangers travel to Perth to take on an in form St Johnstone side who are battling for a Europa League spot and will fight tooth and nail to take points of Ally McCoist's side. The Saints are top priced at 6/1 (bet £1 to make £6 profit) at Paddy Power and Boylesports to claim their second victory over Old Firm opposition this season (they beat Celtic 1-0 at Parkhead in August). Rangers are quoted at best odds of 4/7 at William Hill to move to the top of the table for at least a few hours and put pressure on Celtic. The draw can be backed at best odds of 3/1 at bet365 and Ladbrokes.
Since taking over from Derek McInnes, Steve Lomas has continued the great work of his predecessor and St Johnstone are currently level on points with fourth placed Hearts with a game in hand (away to Inverness). St Johnstone lost 2-0 at home to Rangers but managed an impressive 0-0 draw at Ibrox and will want to give the McDiarmid Park faithful more to shout about with a positive result in Saturday's early kick-off.
Rangers have only taken 13 points from their last eight matches while Celtic have won ten in a row. If the Gers are to remain serious title contenders they must win this match and go on a sustained run of form. St Johnstone forward Fransisco Sandaza is on Rangers transfer wishlist and could join the Glasgow giants later in the month. Whether he punishes his future employers on Saturday remains to be seen.
Sandaza is top priced at 10/1 with Paddy Power to score the opening goal of the game, with Rangers forwards priced much shorter as the bookies see the match only going one way. Nine million pound rated Nikica Jelavic is quoted at best odds of 3/1 at bet365 and Betfred to give the Light Blues the lead with the first goal of the game, whilst David Healy is a best priced 9/2 shot at Ladbrokes to score the opener for Rangers.
In the over/under betting market punters can back over 2.5 goals at best odds of evens at Ladbrokes and bet365. Under 2.5 is a top priced 9/10 shot at Ladbrokes. Over the course of the season, an average of 2.59 goals has been scored in an SPL match.
In the "both teams to score" betting market, Yes is quoted at best odds of 11/10 at Ladbrokes, with No a best priced 3/4 shot at Victor Chandler and Stan James.
St Johnstone are quoted at best odds of 12/1 at Betinternet and Stan James to win the match after leading at half-time, with draw/St Johnstone top priced at 14/1 in bet365 and Ladbrokes' half-time/full-time markets. Rangers/Rangers can be backed at best odds of 11/8 at Boylesports, whilst draw/Rangers is an intriguing 7/2 shot at Ladbrokes.
The match kicks off at 1230 GMT on Saturday and will be live on ESPN
