MIAMI, USA - The final of the International Champions Cup pits Real Madrid against Chelsea in a glamour tie that will please the sponsors and entertain the American fans. The Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida is the location of this fascinating matchup that has several interesting subplots as both managers are facing their former clubs.
Carlo Ancelotti, now the coach of Real Madrid, enjoyed a successful but abrupt rein at Stamford Bridge while his opposite number Jose Mourinho left the Bernabeu after a fractious spell and will be keen to prove a point to the Madrid hierarchy.
The bookmakers have priced up Real Madrid as favourites to win the match inside 90 minutes, Skybet and Bet Fred go a top price of 2.05 on the Spanish giants. Chelsea are chalked up at 3.40 with Skybet for victory and the draw is available at 3.80 with BetVictor - a result that looks the best value.
In his previous spell as Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was defensively very shrewd and you can expect a 'back-to-basics' approach as he looks to bridge the gap to both Manchester clubs in the coming season. The West London club have splashed 22m Euros on Andre Schürrle and have publicly courted Wayne Rooney but their best piece of business this summer will be keeping hold of Juan Mata and David Luiz who were both excellent last season.
Chelsea won both of their previous games in this competition two nil and I would be surprised if we saw an avalanche of goals when they take on Real Madrid. The Over 2.5 goals price is chalked up at 1.57 with BetVictor but this offers little value and I would be very cautious of backing goals in this match, if pushed to make I call I would look towards the Under 3.5 goals market.
Real Madrid have had little trouble in reaching the final after seeing off LA Galaxy 3-1 followed by a 2-1 win over Everton, whilst Chelsea completed a double over both Milan clubs without conceding a goal. Chelsea fans may be tempted to back their side to make it three 2-0 victories in a row, for which you can get a whopping 22.0 with BetVictor; however, I believe it will be evenly fought match that will most likely end in a draw.
Back the draw after 90 minutes at 3.80 with BetVictor is my advice. Correct score punters should look at the correct score lines of 1-1 and 2-2, they are available at 8.50 and 13.00 respectively with BetVictor.
Real Madrid like to come out of the blocks quickly and the bookmakers usually react by bringing in the time of first goal scored. However, goals should be at a premium against Chelsea and it wouldn't be a surprise to see these two heavyweights spar in the early stages. BetVictor offer an excellent price of 1.95 on the first goal being score AFTER the 24th minute mark which is great value.
As always with pre-season friendlies you should be conservative with your stakes.
The game kicks off at 2 a.m. on Thursday 8th August 2013 and can be streamed on bet365 or live on Fox Sports.
