Manchester Clubs Head Europa League Betting After Champions League Exit
Manchester City and Manchester United are the 5-1 and 6-1 first and second favourites respectively with Coral for the Europa League, after both crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage. Barcelona are now 13-8 favourites for the Champions League, with Chelsea 8-1 and Arsenal 20-1.
There were mixed feelings from the bookmakers towards the early exit from the Champions League of the Manchester duo.
"Our offer to refund stakes on any team that lost in the final to Barcelona ensured that both United and City were extremely well-backed ante-post, so obviously we have been spared the potential payout from that, but there's no doubt turnover would benefit from the presence of all four Premier League sides in the knock-out stage, so their early exits are no cause for celebration," said Coral's David Stevens.
"Of course City and United will still be in European action, and time will tell if their participation in the Europa League significantly increases turnover on that tournament, but what we certainly don't want to see now is Chelsea and Arsenal get knocked out in the next round of the Champions League," added Stevens.
