Miserable Manchester 16/1 for Europa League final

Manchester City and Manchester United are 16/1 with Sky Bet to meet in the final of the Europa League after both sides crashed out of the UEFA Champions League.

City needed to beat Bayern Munich at home and hope Villarreal could deny Napoli victory, but the Serie A side triumphed 2-0 to make City's result irrelevant.

Meanwhile, bitter rivals United needed a draw against Basel in order to progress, but went down 2-1 to ensure the Premier League's top two sides dropped out of Europe's premier club competition.

Online betting company Sky Bet has installed Roberto Mancini's men as 5/1 favourites for the trophy, with United available at 7/1.

Football trader Joe Petyt said: "Having both Manchester clubs in the Europa League will definitely give the tournament more prestige, but it depends how seriously the clubs take it.

"City are favourites as they have great depth in their squad, but it remains to be seen whether Roberto Mancini prioritises European success or Premier League glory."

I always like to see English teams do well in Europe, but last night was pretty funny to see United crash out. There's something innately delightful about watching Fergie squirm.

Interesting that City are 6/1 faves for the Europa League and United 8/1. If Utd buy Wesley Sneijder in the January transfer market - which they should have done in the summer given it's bleedingly obvious they lack creative talent in the middle of the park (hence always having to drop Rooney deep) - 8/1 doesn't look too bad to me.
