It’s Doyle Over For Anne In The Rté Newsroom

(6 December 2011) Paddy Power has today opened up betting on who will replace Anne Doyle as the lead anchor on RTÉ’s Nine O’clock News after it was announced that the ‘Queen of the Newsroom’ will present her last news bulletin on Christmas Day.

Paddy Power has installed Una O’Hagan as the 7/4 favourite to become the Nine O’clock News anchor following Anne Doyle’s departure, she is trailed in the betting by fellow RTÉ news presenters Aengus MacGrianna (2/1), Eileen Whelan (9/4) and Anthony Murmane at 6/1.

TG4’s Eimear Ní Chonaola is the shortest priced non RTÉ personality in the betting at 18/1 while Gráinne Seoige and Daithí Ó’Sé help make up the outsiders at 100/1 with Glenda Gilson deemed the most unlikely candidate at a massive 500/1.

Meanwhile Paddy Power have also opened a book on what Anne Doyle will do next following her retirement, here punters can avail of odds of 13/8 that she’ll get engaged to her partner and a far less likely 100/1 for her to release a duet with long term foe Dustin the Turkey!

Paddy Power said “Anne Doyle on the Nine O’clock news has been an institution for years in this country, I have the feeling that the speculation on who will replace her is just kicking off but whoever steps in will have big boots to fill.”
