Premier League Picks

Stephen Fry gives out his top picks on two big weekend EPL matches.

West Ham V Liverpool

Saturday sees second placed Liverpool travel to West Ham, if Liverpool claim the three points here they will go to the top of the Premier League (at least until Manchester United play Sunday).

Going back to last December in the reverse fixture at Anfield West Ham held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw, West Ham are a very useful team at home, if you are to look at their recent home form (and take out the 1-0 beating by Chelsea two weeks ago) they have not been beaten at Upton Park since last December by Aston Villa (1-0).

That`s some sort of record to have going into an important match like this one and West Ham will have to be on top form to stop Liverpool taking the points back up the M6.

Liverpool demolished Newcastle last weekend by three goals to nil, this game could of ended 7-0 to Liverpool if they had had a little more luck, West Ham went to Stoke and took all three points after a 32nd minute goal from Spaniard Diego Tristan who scored the games only goal.

Liverpool will be going for broke to achieve the three points here, but so will West Ham who still have a chance of playing European football next season.

I really can not see past a draw in this match, which will not do either team much good in reality.

Manchester United V Manchester City

Derby day on Sunday for the Manchester Premier League teams.

The reverse fixture last November saw United triumph 1-0 courtesy for a Wayne Rooney strike, a game in which City could only manage one strike on goal in the entire match.

In league terms City have had a pretty poor season away from home, their first away league win was back in August against Sunderland and they won 3-0, fast forward a few months for their second away win which was at Everton (2-1 win) two weeks ago.
That`s a woeful record to have at this level and although this is a derby I do not see them taking the three points here.

United in stark contrast sent a mainly second string team to Middlesbrough last week and came away 2-0 victors without playing to their full potential.

Given City`s poor away form and United`s strong home form, this match for me only has one outcome.
