Serie A 3 & 4 Nov

Ben Green's expert picks for Italian Serie A football games on 3rd and 4th November 2007.

Saturday’s games

Lazio welcome Fiorentina to the Stadio Olimpico, having lost their last two games the home side will be hoping to get their season back on track, however the visitors will have other ideas. The Viola are unbeaten in nineteen games, a run of form that has seen them rise to fourth place in Serie A, they will be looking for three points in order to try and secure a Champions League spot. The fact that Lazio are not performing, coupled with the fact that they also have some injury worries makes Fiorentina a cracking bet. Have a three point bet on Fiorentina (level) at 1.87.

[Fiorentina won 1-0]

The other game on Saturday sees Torino travel to Milan where they will take on AC. The home side are one of the most inconsistent sides in the league and it is tough to tell how they are going to perform, they have been dreadful at home lately but are desperate for points as they currently sit in the middle of the table. Torino are also mid-table and have been consistently ok this season. I would have backed Torino with a goal and a half start but they have a number of injuries and so this match is a no bet for me.

Sunday’s games

Sampdoria travel to Cagliari, both sides need points and this rates to be a close game. Sampdoria were thrashed 5-0 by AC on Wednesday and confidence will be low, that coupled with the fact that the visitors have a terrible away record, as well as number of injuries and suspensions makes me think that Cagliari are worth a small wager. Have a one point bet on Cagliari (-1/4) at 1.94.

[Cagliari lost 3-0]

Roma travel to Empoli and will be looking for three points to keep the pressure on Inter. It looked as though Empoli might be on the up after their slaying of AC Milan but defeats to Atalanta and then a 3-0 beating at the hands of Juve have left them in the drop zone and in real trouble. To cap it all, Empoli have a whole host of injury problems. Roma also have a few injuries but their squad is more than strong enough to get a result, and their away form is the best in Serie A so Empoli will have it all to do. Have a three point bet on Roma (-3/4) at 1.90.

[Roma drew 2-2]

The big match on Sunday sees Inter travelling to Juve. Both sides are in great form at the moment and I don’t think there is much value to be had as the betting lines appear to be spot on.

None of the other games represent significant value for me and are best left alone.
