Serie A 22 & 23 Sept

Ben Green's expert picks for Italian Serie A football games on 22nd and 23rd September 2007.

Saturday’s games

Despite losing 5-0 to Napoli, Udinese have had some big results, beating Juventus last week and holding Inter to a 1-1 draw. Reggina have struggled this season and lost 2-0 to Roma last week. Matches between these sides are usually very close and I don’t think there is much value in backing either side.

The other match on Saturday sees AC Milan welcome Parma to the San Siro. AC have been in poor form since their 3-0 win on the first day of the season, do Parma have what it takes to do them some damage? At the handicaps on offer I think there is little value in backing AC, I would consider Parma (+1 ½) but am happy not to bet on this game.

Sunday’s games

Lazio have been doing well in the Champions League but have yet to find their feet domestically, drawing their last three games. Atalanta have not started the season badly either and I think the two teams are well matched. The only bet I fancy on this match is a one point bet on the draw at 3.00.

[Atalanta won 2-1]

Cagliari have started well, only narrowly losing to Juve and beating Napoli with ease. Palermo’s form has been all over the shop and it is hard to tell how they will perform on their trip to Sardinia. They have a poor record at the Stadio Sant’Ella and I fancy Cagliari to do well in this game. Have a two point bet on Cagliari (level) at 2.05.

[Palermo won 1-0]

Coming off the back of 5-0 and 2-0 victories, Napoli will be riding a wave of confidence. Although Empoli managed a draw with Lazio last week but there season has started off very badly, currently they sit just one place off the bottom of the league and will be feeling the pressure. I think the bookies are being very generous and I recommend a three point bet on Napoli (level) at 2.16.

[Napoli drew 0-0]

None of the other games represent much value for me and are best left alone.
