Serie A 28 Feb

Ben Green's expert picks for Serie A games on 28th February 2007.

Wednesday’s games

The Flying donkeys will be hoping to build on their 3-0 win last week over Torino, now two points clear of the drop zone any points could be critical come the end of the season. Roma also impressed last week, with a 3-0 win over Reggina. Although Roma’s away form has not been great recently, I think they are a strong enough outfit to beat Chievo and cannot resist a two point bet on Roma (-1/2) at 2.11.

[Roma drew 2-2]

Empoli will welcome relegation candidates Messina at the Stadio Castellani. The home side will be hoping for three points to continue their push for a Champion’s League place, whilst Messina will be hoping to build on last week’s win over Siena and move out of the drop zone. Messina’s away form has been terrible, they have lost their last six away games and even though they won last week I find it hard to believe that they can churn out a result. Messina will also be missing their top scorer, Christian Rigano who is suspended for this match and a number of others are injured. Have a three point bet on Empoli (-1/2) at 1.79.

[Empoli won 3-1]

On fire Lazio will host Catania and will be hoping to build on their current fourth position with another win. They have five clean sheets under their belt and are in fantastic form. Considering their 11 point pre-season deduction they have done extremely well to be challenging for the top spots. Catania started the season well but have had a very bad 2007 and confidence will be low after their 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Inter. The visitors will also be missing a couple of key defenders, hardly ideal considering Lazio are scoring goals left, right and centre. Have a two point bet on Lazio (-1) at 1.95.

[Lazio won 3-1]

I was tempted to take Fiorentina (level) at 1.64 against Reggina but the price is not great and although they are in great form, their away form is not as hot as when at home.

None of the other games represent great value for me.
