Saturday’s games

This season kicks off with a Madrid derby, as Real welcome Athletico to the Bernabeu. The current champions have made some useful additions over the summer, including Bernd Schuster, Arjen Robben, Gabriel Heinze and many others. Athletico have also splashed out, buying Reyes, Forlan, Garcia and Sabrosa. Real’s pre-season form has been poor, losing six of 10 matches. Athletico will be keen to get their season started and I think they are fair value, have a one point bet on Athletico (+½) at 2.04.

The other match is a repeat of the Copa del Rey final which Sevilla won 1-0. Getafe will be looking for revenge but do they have enough fire power to overcome the UEFA Cup champions? Sevilla overcame Real Madrid recently, so they would appear to be in good form. I am tempted to back Getafe with a goal start but I don’t think the price is great and so will keep my money for another day.

Newly promoted Murcia have had a fantastic run of form pre-season, they will host Real Zaragoza. An in form team is always an attraction, that coupled with Zaragoza’s poor away form (going from last season) makes me think Murcia are good for a small wager. Have a one point bet on Murica (+¼) at 1.97.

Sunday’s games

Although Valencia have not had the best pre-season preparation, considering how strong they usually are at home I think they are fair value against Villarreal. Have a two point bet on Valencia (-½) at 1.80.

None of the other games reprsent a great deal of value for me.
