Euro 2008 21 Nov
George Oborne's expert picks for Euro 2008 qualifying football games on 21st November 2007.
These are the final Euro 2008 qualifying games and as you may well have suspected there is very little betting to be had. The majority of the groups are pretty much decided and other than FIFA rankings there really is very little to play for.
Spain v Northern Ireland
As Northern Ireland displayed against Denmark, they are still very much gunning for qualification. They are however very heavily disadvantaged, in that Sweden need to lose to Latvia and somehow Northern Ireland need to up their goal difference by 8. I can see Northern Ireland making an attempt at routing Spain to gain the much needed goals. This will leave them very open at the back and will more than likely culminate in Spain punishing Ireland heavily. Spain have nothing to play for and may well field a weaker side, Ireland definitely should not be ruled out of the game. What seems to be the safest bet to me is the game producing over 2.5 goals. I can see Ireland putting a few past a Spanish side with nothing to play for, but I can also see Spain reciprocating with their own fair share of goals.
Have a one point bet on the game producing 3 or more goals at odds of 1.83 on betfair.
[Spain won 1-0]
Serbia v Poland
Poland have qualified and hence have nothing to play for. Serbia, although a long shot could still qualify. Poland will be putting out a weakened side and I can therefore see Serbia taking a win. The bookies seem to agree with this and have Serbia at 1.66. However, it seems to me that the value bet comes through the Asian Handicap with a -1 goal disadvantage you can buy Serbia at 2.18. Serbia should win this and it seems to me that Poland will not be too upset to allow the Serbs to take the game.
Have a one point bet on Serbia (-1) at 2.18 on betfair.
[Poland drew 2-2]
