Old Trafford is about the last place Bolton will want to play on Wednesday night. They have lost their last four consecutive league games and go to the current Premier League leaders having slipped into the relegation zone with just nine games left this season to save their Premiership skins.

Meanwhile Manchester United is facing its second mismatch in five days having beaten rock-bottom Derby 1-0 on Saturday. And the bookies go just 1/6 on United pulling three points clear at the top with a win – hardly a decent betting proposition.

Is there any hope for Bolton? They did beat United 1-0 at the Reebok back in November, but that goal was scored by Nicolas Anelka – who has been sorely missed since his £15m January move to Chelsea.

Indeed, they have only lost once at home in the league this season and conceded just five home goals in the process so on paper they have the best defence in the Premiership.
