EPL 26 & 27 Dec

George Oborne's expert picks for EPL games on 26th December 2007.

Wigan v Newcastle

Wigan are a very poor side this season, they are 19th in the Premiership and although their strike force continue to provide the goods up front, their shaky defence are consistently conceding goals.

In fact, the only clean sheets Wigan have kept were kept in August, a time which seems a very long time ago to their fans who at that point in the season certainly would not have predicted Wigan to be second from bottom by Christmas.

Newcastle meanwhile are also under performing, a late equaliser against Derby is not good enough for a team who aspire to European football. They are, however, slightly more consistent than Wigan, and as long as they can hold their own in defence then the game should not provide them with too many difficulties.

Have a one point bet on Newcastle (level) at odds of 1.91.

[Newcastle lost 1-0]

Man City v Blackburn

Although Man City are not on the greatest of form, neither are Blackburn. They are two out of form teams and are hence rather difficult to have a punt on. I believe, however, that the situation at Blackburn is far more dire than at City.

Man City have retained their position at fourth in the table by scraping together points here and there over the last few weeks, despite two defeats to Tottenham.

Blackburn meanwhile have dropped five places to tenth in the league and have not won any of their last four games. They even managed to lose to 5-3 Wigan despite Roque Santa Cruz being on tremendous form. Their new defence of Samba and Nelson has received huge blows to their confidence and are having real difficulty keeping a clean sheet.

The Blackburn away form has also been demolished, their last win coming at the end of October.

Have a one point bet on a City victory at odds of 2.22.

[City drew 2-2]
