EPL 1 & 2 Dec
George Oborne's expert picks for English Premier League games on 1st and 2nd December 2007.
Portsmouth v Everton
This is a game between two of the greatest threats to the top four. Both teams are on great form and scoring well and have shown some real class this season.
Everton’s last two results have been astounding, a 7-1 trouncing of Sunderland and an injury time equaliser against Chelsea show the team have real character. Portsmouth meanwhile have shown massive consistency up front this season and are the second highest scoring team after Arsenal.
Both teams are scoring extremely well and although the game will be tight I am sure there will be quite a few goals on offer in the game.
Odds of 2.16 on the game to produce more than 2.5 goals is the one point recommendation.
[the game ended 0-0]
Wigan v Man City
Wigan are an appalling side at the moment. They have lost their last eight games on the trot and Steve Bruce has been called in to sort it out. Despite the introduction of a new manager one cannot expect much of Wigan, both home and away they are very much in the trend of losing and it will take a lot of work from Bruce to change this.
Man City meanwhile are still 3rd in the league, a good 17 places above Wigan, and they don’t intend on relinquishing such a position soon. City, at odds of 2.54 away from home aren’t great value, but odds of 8.60 on them winning 1-0 seem very generous as it does seem to be City’s result of choice this season; they have won 1-0 seven times now.
Have a one point bet on City winning 1-0 at odds of 8.60 on Betfair.
[Wigan drew 1-1]
Tottenham v Birmingham
Tottenham are heavily over-rated in this game, Juande Ramos has certainly improved them, but whilst they still have the ability to go 2-0 down at home against poor Danish opposition they are no safe bet.
Birmingham, it must be said are appalling of late, but new manager Alex Mc Leish is a top class manager and one might expect a pretty good performance out of the brummies on the weekend.
Have a one point bet on Birmingham (+1 ¼) at 1.90 on Betfair.
[Birmingham won 3-2]
