EPL 10 & 11 Nov

George Oborne's expert picks for English Premier League games on 10th and 11th November 2007.

Derby v West Ham

Derby are bottom of the league with six points, at best they have managed draws against bottom quarter sides such as Fulham and Bolton.
West Ham are eleventh with 15 points, they are a solid side who work hard for victory. Their performances against teams such as Arsenal and Sunderland have been extremely impressive. It seems to me that where the Hammers have the ability to fight in the mid table, Derby are a certainty for relegation. One would therefore have to heavily favour a West Ham victory.
At odds of 2.32 for West Ham to take home all three points I reckon there is a bet worth having there.

Have a one point bet on West Ham at 2.32.

[West Ham won 5-0]

Sunderland v Newcastle

It is the Tyneside derby and therefore there are favourable odds for Newcastle today. Big Sam has a lot of work to do after being embarrassed by Portsmouth at St James Park last weekend.

Sunderland have not been a very impressive team this season, they have not won since the 15th of September, almost two months ago now. Newcastle have not lost in their last ten games away to Sunderland and I can’t see them ending that run now.

The recommendation is a one point bet on a Newcastle win at generous odds of 2.78 on betfair.

[Newcastle drew 1-1]

Birmingham v Villa

Another Derby game I’m afraid and as far as form goes Villa are the obvious favourites. The game will probably be a close one as derby games often are, the fact that Birmingham have conceded 12 in their last six games and produced just three points in the same run displays their abysmal form.

Villa meanwhile have a very strong side which is making a real campaign in the top half of the table this season. They have shown some real potential this season and can attack from all over the park.

A one point bet on Villa at 2.74 on betfair is the recommendation.

Portsmouth v Man City

Both teams are on extremely good form, Portsmouth showing their strength in attack by annihilating in form Newcastle within eleven minutes last weekend whilst City have shown great maturity at the back with two 1-0 wins against Bolton and Sunderland after their complacency saw them get thrashed 6-0 by Chelsea.

Sven is really working on his defence and he seems to be getting results, the game will be a close one and I can’t see City conceding many goals, despite Portsmouth’s rampant strike force. Therefore the +1/2 Asian Handicap on City does seem generous.

Have a one point bet on City (+1/2) at 1.92.

[City drew 0-0]
