Barcelona v Man Utd
Champions League
Wednesday, 7.45pm (UK time)
Manchester United like the infamous Barca stadium the Nou Camp as it was here that they famously lifted the European Cup in 1999 after beating Bayern Munich 2-1.
But since then things haven’t exactly gone according to plan as they have won just two of nine Champions League semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Barca have won four of their last eight semis, and they have a large historical edge for the two legs.
The trends get worse for United: Barca’s home record against English opponents reads: P23, W13, D8, L2. Given that the away side have won just once in 16 visits to Spain, it appears that United have a significant historical mountain to climb if they are to leave the Spanish city with a win.
What is in United’s favour though is recent form: Barca have been on a terrible run recently which has seen them win just one of their last seven in La Liga to slip nine points behind arch rivals Real Madrid. Also, there are problems with the squad: they are missing Henry, Ronaldinho and possibly Puyol for the first leg, while Messi is still not properly fit.
United on the other hand are motoring towards retaining their Premier league title after winning six of their last seven domestically. They were also able to rest Ronaldo and Rooney for the second leg of the Roma game, and having scored in every away CL game this term, United head to Spain expectant of getting at least a draw, if not the actual win.
It could easily be a stalemate so why not back a couple of likely scorelines.
Betting recommendation:
1pt on the 1-1 draw at 11/2
1 pt on the 2-2 draw at 16/1 or better
