Liverpool have certainly had a hold on Chelsea in the Champions League recently and we’re backing this trend to continue.

Twice in the last four years Chelsea’s European hopes have ended in a semi-final at Anfield, going down 1-0 in 2005 and again in 2007. Of the six European meetings between the sides since 2005, Chelsea have managed just one win, with Liverpool triumphing in three, and two draws.

In fact, Chelsea have not won at Liverpool in any competition since 2005 – that’s why it should pay to stick with the Reds again in this match. Both sides are very much home specialists in this competition and as a result it is hard to favour Chelsea coming away from an Anfield European night with victory.
But backing the hosts at a best-priced 13/10 doesn’t seem particularly good value. What is better value, even if it’s a smaller price, is betting on under 2.5 goals. Traditionally, at this stage of the Champions League, backing under 2.5 goals in this fixture has been like printing money and there is no reason to believe it won’t happen again here.
