English teams start strongly in UEFA Cup last 16

Newcastle won 4-2 at St James’ Park and Spurs won 4-3 at Braga to continue their UEFA campaigns strongly. The London side are now second favourites for the title, remaining on offer at 7.00 (6/1) with Sportingodds. The Bet Asia team takes a look at all of tonight’s UEFA Cup action and how the betting markets have reacted.

After a relatively quiet first half, goals began to rain in left, right and centre. Keane opened the scoring for the visitors, and Malbranque made it two, Braga fought back and goals from Jorge and Ze Carlos brought the teams level, Keane scored again in the last minute of the game to earn his side the victory. Goals were also flying in at St James’ with five goals in the first half. Newcastle took the lead after a Steinsson own goal, Dyer then made it two and Martins struck just a minute later to make it 3-0. Arveladze got one back but Martins scored another to make it 4-1, Koevermans scored in the second half, but the visitors could not undo the damage as the game ended 4-2. The Magpies have been cut for the title, from 18.00 (17/1) to 15.00 (14/1) with Sportingodds. AZ have been pushed out from 20.00 (19/1) to 34.00 (33/1) with Skybet.

One of the major shocks of the night was Seville’s 2-2 draw at home to Shakhtar Donetsk. The favourites went in front from the spot early on but looked as if they would lose the game when Shakhtar equalised and then went ahead with their own penalty kick. Thankfully for the Spaniards, they were given a second penalty with just two minutes to play and this was duly converted as the game ended 2-2. Seville have been pushed out and are no longer the favourites, out from 5.00 (4/1) to a best price of 8.00 (7/1) with Paddy Power.

Werder beat Celta Vigo 1-0 away from home and are now the favourites for the title, on offer at a best price of 5.50 (9/2) with Sportingodds.

Rangers scored a last minute equaliser to draw 1-1 against Osasuna. The Scots are out from 26.00 (25/1) to 51.00 (50/1) with Skybet.

Lens won 2-1 at home to Bayer Leverkusen, Haifa drew 0-0 with Espanyol and PSG came from a goal down to beat Benfica 2-1 at home.
