More than 29,000 Singapore residents banned from casino gambling

The Singapore government released figures on Wednesday that revealed 29,153 people have been barred from gambling at casinos to date.

Under the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG)'s casino exclusion framework, 28,690 third party exclusions, 426 self-exclusion orders and 37 family exclusions have so far been issued.

Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports stated that the government would continue to discourage gambling among people resident in Singapore, according to a report in the Business Times.

The National Council on Problem Gambling was set up in 2005, following the government’s decision to legalise casino gambling.

Singapore’s first casino, Resorts World Sentosa, opened in February.
