Weekend La Liga Picks (April 25 & 26)

Stephen Fry gives out his top tips for this wekeend`s big La Liga matches.

Valencia V Barcelona

Barcelona travel to Valencia to try and get another three points after their midweek win.

Midweek Barcelona took on Sevilla and demolished them 4-0, Valencia also played midweek and also won their match by 2 goals to 1.

Valencia are on a five match unbeaten run and will be very tough to breakdown, I think the other thing to consider is that Barcelona have the first leg of the Champions League Semi-Finals on Tuesday night against Chelsea, with that in mind Barca coach Guardiola may well rest some first team players.

The reverse fixture saw Barca run out easy 4-0 winners at the Nou Camp, but I think this game will be a lot lot closer.

I do not really like sitting on the fence but with this match I think I will make an exception and back the draw.

Sevilla V Real Madrid

Real have put together a phenomenal run of success to keep the pressure up on table toppers Barcelona, but they will have to dig even deeper if they are to pick up their 17th win in 18 league games against coach Juande Ramos` former club.

Already without Wesley Sneijder and probably Gabriel Heinze through injury, Madrid could well have lost arguably their three most influential players in the wake of Tuesday`s thrilling 3-2 derby win over Getafe.

Winger Arjen Robben lasted just 18 minutes of the clash before suffering a muscle injury that will sideline him for at least a fortnight, while key defender Pepe is facing a lengthy ban for his violent actions as he was sent off late on.

Suspension may also rob Real of top scorer Gonzalo Higuain for this match, with the Argentinian picking up a booking for diving inside the area.

Madrid coach Ramos confirmed they would be appealing against that decision though, and it would be a huge boost to have the 18-goal hitman available for what could be a crucial match for both clubs.

Even though Sevilla got a thumping midweek to Barca, I just think that with Real`s injuries and suspensions it could be worth sitting on the fence again and betting the draw.
