MIAMI, USA - Italian champions Juventus face their domestic rivals Inter Milan in the 7/8th place play off in the International Champions Cup - technically the 'wooden spoon' match as, surprisingly, both teams lost consecutive games in the eight team strong tournament.
As expected, Juventus are strong favourites to beat Inter Milan and you can pick up a top price of 1.62 with Paddy Power. A win for the Nerazzurri is chalked up at 5.50 with Bet Fred and bet365, with the draw available at an industry best price of 4.00 with BetVictor.
Let's start with Inter. Walter Mazzarri is under no illusion as to what's ahead of him at Inter Milan, as the 4-0 drubbing against Valencia last time out indicated. However, too much shouldn't be read into results of pre-season friendlies as Mazzarri is no doubt experimenting with the under achieving and fragile squad he inherited. But the last thing he needs to face a Juventus side still smarting from a 3-1 defeat to L.A. Galaxy last time out.
Inter Milan were comprehensively beaten by Valencia 4-0 in the sunshine of New York and their fans will be fearing a repeat when they meet Juventus. Their approach against Valencia was very lackadaisical and they were punished after just six minutes when Ever Banega scored a stunning long range effort after some woeful defending. Valencia's third goal was even worse from an Inter perspective with their whole defence standing off Jonas, who rounded the keeper to walk the ball in.
If a Valencia side, who are still trying to the plug the void of Roberto Soldado who moved to Tottenham Hotspur, can see off Inter so easily I expect Juventus to have no trouble at all. Punters have been backing the Italian champions off the boards and the 1.62 on offer now holds little value; however, there is still value to be had in the asian handicap market.
bet365 are a top price of 2.50 on Juventus -1.5 on the asian handicap, or for those conservative punters you can back Juventus -1.25 at odds of 2.25 with the same firm. Inter Milan have conceded six goals in their two outings stateside and failed to score in the process.
Juventus coach Antonio Conte was highly critical of his side's concentration levels in the surprise 3-1 defeat to L.A. Galaxy and insists his team will not leave the friendly tournament without a victory. Juventus have the Italian Super Cup against Lazio in 12 days time and Conte see's this fixture as the ideal preparation in their bid for the first piece of domestic silverware. Simply put, Juventus will have far more motivation than Inter Milan heading into this fixture.
The Juventus/Juventus result also makes appeal and the 2.60 on offer with William Hill is excellent value - it can be found as short as 2.05 elsewhere. The Old Lady are currently a class apart from Inter Milan and the Italian champions should press home their advantage in their final pre-season match on American soil.
The game kicks off at 11:30 p.m. GMT on Tuesday 6th August 2013 and can be streamed on bet365.
