SICILY, ITALY - Inter Milan make the trip to Sicily looking to make it two wins on the bounce after a routine 2-0 home over Genoa last weekend. But it's a tricky test for Walter Mazzari and his new side. Catania have often been the thorn in many of the top sides in recent seasons and the bookmakers have seen a steady stream of money on the hosts taking another scalp on Sunday evening.
totesport, Bet Fred and Ladbrokes offer an industry best price of 2.75 on a Catania win. You can pick up a top price of 2.88 with BetVictor on Inter Milan leaving Sicily with three points and finally the draw is readily available at 3.30 with Coral among others.
Last season's corresponding fixture was a sensational match for the neutrals. It was a topsy-turvy affair that finished 3-2 to the visitors, Catania had raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 20 minutes but Inter Milan rallied and scored three second half goals with Rodrigo Palacio netting a brace. In fact Palacio excels when facing Catania and has scored five goals against the Sicilian's during his time in Serie A and I really like the odds on him score again this evening.
BetVictor offer a whopping price of 3.10 on Palacio to score anytime or for bigger odds you can back him at 7.50 to net first with the same firm. The experienced Argentine striker put the gloss on last weekends 2-0 win over Genoa with a 90th minute strike and Palacio will carry most of the goal scoring burden for Inter while new signing Marco Icardi settles in.
Catania coach Rolando Maran has a settled and talented squad at his disposal with just one injury concern (Ciro Capuano) ahead of the Inter Milan visit. His side put up a good fight in the 2-1 defeat against a very strong Fiorentina side, his team were trailing 2-0 but showed great resilience to come back and get a foothold in the game rather than crumbling.
Despite Inter's lack of top class players I believe they will have a very good season under Mazzarri and, given the current prices on Inter, I am tempted to back them for victory here. However, Catania are very solid at home losing just once in their last 11 home league games, so as a safer option I would rather look at the goals market to end the game in profit.
Inter Milan have scored at least two goals in 12 of their last 14 games against Catania and I am certain they can find the net at least once here. Boylesports and Unibet offer a top price of 1.73 on both teams to score and it should be snapped up before it's clipped in as some firms go as short at 1.62.
Catania will be confident of breaching the Inter defence at least once and punters shouldn't be put off by the fact Inter failed to concede a single shot on goal last weekend - that was down to Genoa's inability to fashion any decent opportunities rather than stoic defending from Inter.
All in all it look's set to be an entertaining match with both sides sharing a few goals and hopefully, from a punting perspective, we see Palacio on the score sheet for Inter Milan.
The game kicks off at 7:45pm BST on Sunday 1 September 2013.
