Spain Pain For Euro 2008 Bookies
Spain are the new favourites to win Euro 2008 to the delight of one UK punter who staked £50,000 on them at pre-tournament odds of 11/2.
The bettor stands to make a profit of £275,000 if Spain beats Germany in the final. The southern-based businessman has already won another £40,000, when he staked £55,000 on Spain beating Russia earlier in the tournament.
"Spain v Germany is the dream final for punters as they have been the best backed sides throughout - but it is the absolute nightmare scenario for the bookies." said William Hill`s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
William Hill now make Spain 8/13 to lift the trophy, with Germany quoted at 5/4. Spain are 5/4 to win in 90 minutes, Germany 2/1 with the draw 15/8. It is 7/2 for the game to go to a penalty shoot out with an offer of 8/1 Spain and 8/1 Germany to win it that way.
There will be a big celebration, it just likely won`t be by the books.
