PARIS, FRANCE - Paris Saint-Germain are big favourites to overcome Athletic Bilbao in Wednesday’s Group F tie. The French side is quoted at a top price of 4/6 (bet £6 make £4 profit) with Stan James to emerge the victor. Athletic Bilbao look unlikely to win the bookmakers rating them at best a 5/1 shot with Victor Chandler. The top price for a draw is 3/1 with the same firm.
The Spaniards currently lead the group and will go through to the knockout stages in first place even if they lose. On the other hand Paris S-G are in third place behind Red Bull Salzburg on goal difference so a win is vital if they wish to progress further in the competition. With two wins in their last two the Paris team will be keen to make it three in three, especially in front of their home crowd, it is a must win game and there is no doubt that the French team will play like it.
The firms are expecting Paris S-G to win both the first and second halves, with a PSG/PSG result being quoted at best an 8/5 chance by William Hill. A draw/draw result doesn’t seem off the cards with Victor Chandler offering the best price of 11/2. A PSG/Athletic Bilbao result looks the least likely with 55/1 being quoted by Paddy Power.
The markets suggest that a close home side victory at 1-0 will be the result, a best price of 13/2 can be had with William Hill. A 1-1 draw is next in the betting with 7/1 offered by the same firm. If the Spanish team were to win the bookies are expecting it to also be close with 1-0 the favoured score, the best odds for this are 14/1 with bet365.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Kevin Gameiro is their top scorer this season and as such he is favourite to open the scoring at a top price of 9/2 with bet365. Also at 9/2 with Paddy Power is Guillaume Hoarau, he has only managed two league games for the French side so far but the bookmakers feel he could be on target. At 9/1 with bet365 Llorente looks the most deadly for Athletic Bilbao.
