ROME, ITALY - Lazio will kick off as clear favourites to win Wednesday’s Group D clash. The Italian side is at best 8/13 (bet £13 make £8 profit) with William Hill to get the better of their Portuguese counterparts. Sporting are the clear underdogs, playing away to a team with a good home record. They are given a top price of 5/1 with Victor Chandler to cause an upset.
Sporting lead Group D and will qualify for the knockout stages in first place regardless of the result and sitting in third place at home they might be keen to concentrate on closing the gap on the leaders. Conversely Lazio are alongside FC Vaslui on six points with it all to play for. With Vaslui playing Zurich, who are yet to win a Europa League game this season, it is imperative that Lazio win and win well, as second place could easily go down to goal difference.
The bookmakers are expecting the home side to edge a victory with the most likely score being 1-0. William Hill are offering a top price of 13/2 for this score line. The same firm also offers the best odds on a 1-1 draw at 7/1. The firms don’t give Sporting much of a chance and the markets suggest that their most likely win would be 1-0 and this is at best a 14/1 shot offered by bet365.
Having scored twice at the weekend, Lazio’s Klose seems to be the man in form and as such he is the favourite to hit the net first. At best he is 4/1 with bet365. Having scored ten goals this season already for the Portuguese side, Ricky van Wolfswinkel looks the most likely to open the scoring for Sporting. He is 11/1 with Victor Chandler.
In terms of the half-time/full-time result the bookies are expecting a Lazio/Lazio end result with 8/5 the top offer by William Hill. A draw/draw result is best priced at 11/2 with Victor Chandler while the least likely combination seems to be Lazio/Sporting with the comeback getting top odds of 50/1 with Paddy Power.
