Macau Gambling Guide

Macau is the new centre of the world`s gambling having overtaken Las Vegas in 2006 in terms of amounts wagered per year. Although it has always been a gambling centre the ending of Stanley Ho`s monopoly on gambling in the Chinese territory has brought in a huge influx of new casinos and attracted vast numbers of gambling tourists.

Casinos in Macau

Sands Macau is the largest casino in the world, as measured by the number of table games, helping contribute to the US$6 billion or so that was bet in the territory`s casinos in 2006.

A large number of new casinos are in development, including The Venetian Macao (due to open in 2007), Four Seasons (2007), MGM Grand Macau (2007), Ponte 16 (2007), the Far East Consortium Complex (2007), Grand Hyatt (2007), Galaxy Cotai Megaresort (2008), City of Dreams (2008), Oceanus (2008) and Mandarin Oriental (2009). Richard Branson is rumoured to be trying to acquire land in Macau to build a US$3 billion casino, although that was unconfirmed by his corporate office.
