Bundesliga Picks - 26 August 2011

Rob Alexander hopes to continue his Bundesliga picking form with two more bets this weekend

The start of the Bundesliga season has been good to us with all my picks coming through in the opening couple of weeks. Long may it continue. I think I've found another two solid bets to continue our profit making from Germany's top division.

German football is on the uptick right now, which is shown well by the Bundesliga's representation in European competition this season. With three teams in the Champions League and two in the Europa League, only England and Spain have more representative teams in Europe.

The Friday evening match this week between Hertha BSC and VfB Stuttgart I am avoiding as it's too close to call for the handicap.

Saturday Pick

Hoffenheim v Werder Bremen

This may seem a strange pick to some as it's probably as tough a match to call as any, but in looking at the early season form at bit more closely it seems to be a good chance for Hoffenheim to continue their good start to the season.

Under former St Pauli boss Holger Stanislawski, Hoffenheim have been rejuvenated and have a talented squad with the like of Ryan Babel in the ranks. A home win over Borussia Dortmund shows the quality that Hoffenheim have.

Werder Bremen have six points from three matches, just like their opponents but the quality of their opposition in their two home wins and the manner of those victories, especially the 5-3 victory over Freiburg last weekend will not give the side much confidence on their travels. A 1-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen was almost inevitable and I expect a similar result this weekend, with Hoffenheim perhaps winning by more goals.

Hoffenheim will have too much for Werder Bremen this weekend and it's worth betting at least 2 points on this.

Bet 2 points on Hoffenheim -0.75 at 2.6 with bet365.

Sunday Pick

Hannover v Mainz

Hannover will be hoping to keep up their impressive start to the season with victory at home to a strong Mainz outfit. The home side managed to beat Sevilla over two legs in the Europa League play-offs and a result like that will only serve to increase the team's already brimming confidence.

Mainz were one of the leading sides in the early part of last season and are once again doing pretty well, with six points from three matches. A 4-2 home defeat to Schalke last week did put a bit of a dampener on Mainz though. A tough trip to Hannover is hardly ideal for them to get back on track.

I can't see past a victory for Hannover with a decent handicap in this match and I fancy betting 2 points on the outcome. Hannover will be slightly fatigued from the trip to Sevilla but the extra day to recover should be enough for them.

Bet 2 points on Hannover -1.25 at 3.8 at bet365.
