BERLIN, GERMANY - Punters across the world are relishing the prospect of an intriguing finale to the 2010-2011 Bundesliga season, with Borussia Dortmund's lead at the top of the table now just five points. The Black Yellows, who at one stage appeared to have an unassailable lead in the league table, have dropped points in their last two, and face a crunch tie with third placed Hannover over the weekend.
They have been lengthened to a best price of 1/9 with Sportingbet to win their first title for ten years, with second placed Bayer Leverkusern now at a trimmed 7/1 with Victor Chandler. Hannover, twelve points off the league leaders, are an astonishing 500/1 shot with Sportingbet to win the title, while defending Champions Bayern Munich, who lie in fourth place (fourteen points off), are 149/1 on Betfair.
Hannover are an outside 13/2 chance with Blue Square to grab three points at Dortmund on Saturday, but the hosts' unconvincing displays of late might make a draw a good bet at 4/1 on Betfair. Dortmund face difficult trips to Hamburg and Werder Bremen in the season run-in, and given the fact they were a longshot for the title at the start of the season a late collapse in form could be on the cards.
Bayern Munich's disappointing season got even worse when they squandered a 1-0 away aggregate lead against Inter in the Champions League, and a late rally in the Bundesliga looks unlikely. They are still to face Leverkusen, Schalke, and high-flying Nuremburg, although will fancy their chances of clawing back ground on second and third place. After two wins in a row Louis van Gaal's men are 1/5 with Coral to beat rock bottom Mönchengladbach on Saturday.
With Hannover set to play four of their last seven away from home, Leverkusen look in the strongest position to challenge Dortmund at the top. Four of Bayer's last six games are against teams in the bottom half of the table, and they have won five of their last six. They may also take confidence from the fact they beat Dortmund 2-0 on the opening day of the season - the league leaders' only home loss so far.
At the wrong end of the table, Mönchengladbach are favourites to drop a division at 2/7 with Ladbrokes, while a recent slump in form sees St Pauli at 4/5, also with Ladbrokes. They are above struggling Wolfsburg in the table, however, and Steve McClaren's former club might be a tempting bet at 5/2 with Victor Chandler to be relegated at the end of the season.
