ORLANDO, FLORIDA – The NBA All-Star weekend festivities continue this Saturday evening with a whole host of stars lining up to compete in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, Foot Locker Three Point Shootout and the highly anticipated Sprite Slam Dunk contest. LiveOddsandScores.com preview the favourites for each event:
Slam Dunk Contest
After being served up a treat last year with Blake Griffin and JaVale McGee’s astonishing performances, the All-Star weekend’s signature event will sorely be missing a star this year as Paul George, Derrick Williams, Chase Budinger and Jeremy Evans battle it out to be crowned the league’s best dunker. Second-year Indiana Pacers guard Paul George is the favourite for the contest, at a best price of 2/1 with Boylesports. Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Derrick Williams, whose chances will certainly be enhanced by fellow rookie Ricky Rubio throwing him passes in the contest, is the next best chance in the market at 7/2 with William Hill. Houston Rockets forward Chase Budinger and Utah Jazz sophomore Jeremy Evans are both 4/1 chances with Bluesquare and William Hill respectively.
This year’s skills challenge features a wealth of superstars as Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams, John Wall, Rajon Rondo, Tony Parker and Kyrie Irving battle it out for the coveted award. Oklahoma’s Russell Westbrook, who is enjoying an outstanding season for the Western Conference leaders, has the perfect skill set to take home the award and is the 10/3 favourite in the market with Boylesports. Deron Williams, who won the event back in 2008, is a 7/2 chance with William Hill alongside 2010 first overall pick John Wall. Boston’s Rajon Rondo, a late replacement for injured defending champion Stephen Curry, is 4/1 to win the event with Boylesports whilst San Antonio’s Tony Parker is a 9/2 shot with William Hill. Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving, who took home the MVP award in the Rising Stars Challenge last night, is a 6/1 chance in the market with Boylesports.
Three Point Shootout
The Three Point Shootout sees the best long-range shooters in the game go head to head in one of the most popular events of the weekend. Miami’s James Jones is the favourite to defend his crown at 4/1 with Boylesports but will face stiff competition from Oklahoma’s Kevin Durant, Orlando’s Ryan Anderson, New Jersey’s Anthony Morrow, Miami teammate Mario Calmers and Minnesota’s Kevin Love. Kevin Durant, who has gone 36.5% from three-point land so far this season, is an 11/2 chance for the award at Bluesquare. Chalmers, who is shooting an impressive 45.6 % from behind the arc, is a 4/1 shot with Boylesports. Anthony Morrow is available at 4/1 with William Hill, Anderson is a 4/1 chance at Boylesports whilst Kevin Love is 7/1 longshot in the market with Bluesquare.
All-Star Saturday Night begins at 2000 ET/0100 GMT with live coverage on TNT (US)/ESPN (UK).
